OnePlus to work on crypto wallets; asks users in blockchain survey

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, OnePlus may be planning to venture into crypto. The company was lately found to be surveying its users about blockchain tech and by extension, the need for a crypto wallet. The research aims at receiving users’ comments on crypto. The company is asking users if they’ve used trading platforms like Gemini, Coinbase, Binance and Robinhood.

Initially, the development was reported by MySmartPrice. Titled as OnePlus Blockchain Research, the survey hints at the company venturing into crypto wallet space/platform. The rapidly growing interest in digital currencies, especially among the youths may have urged OnePlus to start the survey. The purpose of the survey is unclear but it hints that the company is getting inclined towards the cryptocurrency market.

The center of attraction of the OnePlus Blockchain Research survey, which is a Google Form, seems to be around understanding blockchain. However, some queries point to the development of a new crypto platform that could be a wallet to save virtual currency.

The survey questions users if they’ve invested in crypto and the platforms used for the investment. Add to the list, questions like device used for investing in crypto, usage of any ‘software hot wallets’ like MetaMask or Coinbase Wallet. It also includes questions about non-fungible tokens (NFT).

It is for the first time that there are hints of a prominent smartphone manufacturer suggesting interests in crypto. Previously, Samsung was said to be encouraging Bitcoin and other digital currencies on its Galaxy smartphones since February 2019. Samsung provides its Blockchain Wallet to offer support for the famous coins. Further, HTC has introduced its own crypto wallet.
