On Sunday, Geometric Energy Corporation announced the dogecoin-funded mission. The announcement came with a statement not revealing the financial value of the mission. Space X will be launching the “DOGE-1 Mission to Moon” in the first three months of the coming year. This will be done with Elon Musk’s rocket company accepting the meme-inspired crypto dogecoin as payment.
The Vice President of Commercial Sales, SpaceX said that they are excited to launch DOGE-1 to the Moon! He further added that the mission will showcase the application of crypto beyond Earthorbit. It will also set the foundation for interplay commerce.
A Tweet by Elon Musk in April stated that SpaceX was going to put a “literal Dogecoin on the literal moon”.
On Sunday, the cryptocurrency which was created as a joke lost more than a 3rd of its price. This happened after Tesla Inc.’s CEO called it a ‘hustle’ during his guest-host spot on a TV show.
This year, a tweet by Musk transformed Dogecoin, a once-obscured cryptocurrency into a speculator’s dream.
In February, electric carmaker Tesla Inc. said that it purchased bitcoins worth $1.5 billion and the company will soon accept it as a form of payment for its cars. This was a large stride towards mainstream acceptance that sent bitcoin to a whopping high of nearly $62,000.
