Reaching out to user traffic, followed by user content, and now user’s crypto wallet, the world wide web has evolved to offer direct services to users around the world. Nike, the global sports and retail merchandise maker, has entered Web3 with .SWOOSH.
On SWOOSH, everyone, from consumers to athletes, can “design and own” virtual creations – interactive digital objects like shoes, jerseys. These digital shoes can be worn in games and immersive spaces like the Metaverse. Pro athletes will also be able to reserve access so only some can unlock these spaces such as conversations.
“.SWOOSH is a new community experience, designed to give you the opportunity to co-create the future of Nike,” says a statement on the website.
Creators and designers can use .Swoosh to create their collections and trade or exhibit them. Special access can be created, and drops can be made available for pre-order.
Nike is inviting its fans and followers to become community members to help create the next-gen Nike virtual creations. As per the website, these could be “sneakers, apparel, accessories and other collectibles you can wear in games or other immersive experiences.”
The first collection will be launched next year on the platform (currently in a closed beta phase), which will officially open on November 18, 2022. The initial community focus will be on the US and European markets. .Swoosh will feature community challenges, with potential to earn royalty. The platform is similar to but not the same as its other platforms, RTFKT and Nikeland.
For those new to crypto wallets, the platform will create one for users as the sign up and get their .Swoosh ID. The wallet will be created by a third party, Bitgo. This wallet will deal exclusively with Nike virtual assets only and not for generic use. Security will be ensured with multi-factor authentication, and wallet password.
Says Ron Faris, GM of Nike Virtual Studios. “We are shaping a marketplace of the future with an accessible platform for the web3-curious,” Faris says. “In this new space, the .SWOOSH community and Nike can create, share, and benefit together.”
