Axie Infinity, an NFT-based game recorded an all-time high of $1 billion in trade

A game based on non-fungible tokens (NFTs), Axie Infinity clocked $1 billion in all-time sales – the highest ever for the platform supported by the Ethereum blockchain. It is much similar to a Pokemon game. Players have to gather ‘Axies’ which are nothing but cute characters each having a unique combination of body shape, parts and abilities.

Users breed these creatures in the game. They can acquire or train them. In addition to this, these creatures can fight online akin to Neopets to Pokemon. Further, they can be used to complete challenges.

The NFT game holds a virtual economy of its own through its in-game tokens – Axie Infinity Shard (AXS) and Smooth Love Potion (SLP). Similar to all in-game currencies, these can be used to purchase farm, land or breed Axies. In the previous 30 days, the game has generated about $780 million in sales across 1.4 million transactions.

No wonder, the game has become the highest value NFT project worldwide and has set a new record for itself. NFTs have hiked completely in popularity over a previous couple of years but especially during the novel Coronavirus pandemic. The volume of NFTs has risen to a shocking $2.5 billion in the first six months of the year 2021.

While they are expected to help establish a distinctive identity, many see them as a genuine investment that will continue to reward them amazingly in the upcoming time.

Surprisingly, Axie Infinity is not a new game. Created by a Vietnamese gaming studio, Sky Mavis, the game was introduced 3 years ago.
