Google surveying blockchain products – CEO shares Web3 plan

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet Inc. and its subsidiary Google, shared some information on the blockchain strategy of the group during the firm’s Q4 earnings call the previous week.

Pichai was inquired about his views on web3 and Alphabet’s strategy to the industry. The CEO started elaborating by saying that anytime there is innovation, he finds that exciting. He added that on Web3, they are undoubtedly anticipating blockchain, and such a powerful and interesting technology with broad applications, so much broader, again, than anyone application.

He continued that as a firm, they are looking at how they might contribute to the ecosystem and add value. Just one example, their Cloud team is looking at how they can support their customer’s requirements in developing, transacting, storing value, and deploying their products on the blockchain-based platforms.

The CEO opined that they will undoubtedly be watching the space closely and supporting it where they can. Overall, he thinks technology will continue to develop and innovate and they want to be pro-innovation and approach it that way.

The Cloud division of Google recently created a group to develop a business around blockchain applications. Head of the strategy for digital assets at Google’s Cloud unit, Richard Widmann said that the group plans to hire a large number of people having blockchain expertise. He said that they think that if they do their jobs right, that will drive decentralization.
