Bitcoin takes on gold for Diwali, Bollywood celebs come in support

Prior to Diwali, two of the leading stars of Bollywood are setting up another alternative during India’s annual gold shopping spree: cryptos.

Two of the prominent crypto platforms in India have each tapped Bollywood stars – one, Amitabh Bachchan, the most prominent Indian actor of all time – to foster cryptos as a simple and bigger investment prior to Dhanteras, the most propitious day in the Hindu calendar to start new ventures or purchase gold.

Crypto exchanges such as CoinDCX and CoinSwitch Kuber are touting Bitcoin as another alternative. Ranveer Singh, star of some of India’s biggest blockbusters, in an advertisement for CoinSwitch, delivers a rap in Hindi about just how easy crypto trading can be.

Indian netizens have extended their Diwali investments to include real estate, diamonds, stocks and other assets.

The RBI effectively prohibited crypto trading until the courts removed the ban in March 2020. Since, then, the government has trifled with crypto governance legislation that can change the perspective of investors.

Including Bollywood’s star pitchmen, aids boost crypto into the mainstream and specifically in Amitabh’s case, adds a measure of reputability. Apart from being a voice-of-god baritone, Amitabh has been the star face of the Reserve Bank of India’s campaign against banking fraud, otherwise and online.

India’s idea for a virtual rupee apart, the Reserve Bank of India remains critical of cryptos, recommending that the government prohibit them. Officials met with Mr. Bachchan over the weekend to retell its issues. The star said he’d re-evaluate his bond with CoinDCX.
